Whimsical Mixed Media & Assemblage Art Creations by Karen Miller

|
I was born and raised, and still reside, in UPTOWN New Orleans with my father, Clarence Miller, and my two kitties: Elektra and Zeus. I received
my Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. I am a self-taught artist, with interests in repurposing in an
intuitively creative manner. My work background includes the hospitality and legal industries.
I was raised in a culturally-rich environment, being introduced to traditional arts and crafts at a very young age. My earliest memory of being
intrigued with paper clippings was sparked from the Betsy McCall paper doll in the McCall’s Magazine. As a child of the 60s, collage was my
favorite expression of art. Today, assemblage and mixed-media collage continue to be my favorite art form.
HAPPYHOURKITTY Art, established in 2005 as my hobby, was created with the intentions of donating a significant portion of my art to our
community. HAPPYHOURKITTY Art is my self-expression of joie de vivre, with inspiration from two of my favorite things: kitties and happy hour.
I believe it is important to value and respect our environment through artful repurposing of found items, including vintage and modern
embellishments and ephemera. My favorite project is creating unique, hand-crafted HAPPYHOURKITTY Couture outfits for my Joie de Vivre
PaperDoll Grls.
